Conde Arnaldos, Álora la bien cercada, Moro alcaide, moro alcaide, Don Bueso, ¡Oh ciudad, cuanto me cuestas, etc. son poemas que por su contenido y el desarrollo del tema pueden ser considerados como baladas; pertenecen al género que en español se denomina romance; «The fact that in Spain the ballad and the language share the same name is a good indication of how deeply the people felt that this poetic composition belonged to and represented them» (p. 924)
