Resumen
Repaso a la materialidad de los códices y al contenido de la conocida obra legislativa emanada del escritorio alfonsí. Al margen de las consabidas teorías sobre su origen y su posición en la escala de los textos jurídicos del Rey Sabio, el autor diserta sobre las siete edades del hombe y su importancia como corolario de diferentes teorías filosóficas medievales acerca de la evolución del ser humano, enfatizándose cómo «all medieval depictions of the human life-cycle are not only descriptions of an ideal, but are also always a rhetorical strategy for attempting to normalize the behavior of specific members of society at different junctures in their lives» (p. 65)
