Resumen
Aborda las acusaciones que han recaído sobre Gallardo y Gayangos por su afición a coleccionar libros, por lo que se les ha tildado de «bibliopiratas» a ambos. A partir de numeroso material documental examina las actividades de estos eruditos en relación a las transacciones de libros y compara su actitud con la de Libri: «In conclusion, these reflections have led me to recognize that any hard and fast judgment would be imprudent and premature. (…) There are, one might say, cases to be made out for and against on both sides, but the charges against both pale into insignificance when compared with the notorius conduct of Guglielmo Libri» (pp. 431 y 432).
