Los textos historiográficos hispano-latinos redactados en el espacio cortesano en Castilla-León durante el siglo XII y la primera mitad del XIII reflejarían no solo un locus sino, además, todas las concepciones ideológicas y construcciones propagandísticas que rodeaban la muerte del rey. Entre otras fuentes, el autor maneja la Historia Silense, las Crónicas asturianas, la Chronica Adefonsi Imperatoris, Lucas de Tuy, Rodrigo Jiménez de Rada, la Crónica Najerense o la Estoria de España alfonsí
